Press Release:

Identity Commons, ooTao, and NetMesh announce interoperability of personal digital identity technologies.

Digital Identity World 2005, San Francisco. Tuesday, May 10, 2005.

Identity Commons, ooTao, and NetMesh Inc. today announced the interoperability of i-names and Light-Weight Identity (LID) personal digital identity technologies, which allows owners of i-name digital identities to control access to their personal identity information by third parties through the LID protocols. This integration further extends the companies' lead in bringing universal, personal digital identities to the market that empower the individual and usher in a new era of personal network computing.

The new capabilities will be demonstrated throughout the conference at the i-names registration kiosk.

"Our mission at Identity Commons' is giving people control and choice over their data and Internet experience" said Owen Davis, Founder of Identity Commons. "Enabling i-names users to share their data via the LID protocols expands people's choices and demonstrates the Identity Commons' commitment to interoperability."

"Before we can have secure distributed data sharing promised by technologies like XDI, we need a robust interoperable identity network. We're leveraging the trust built between people and organizations by ID Commons to actually build the interoperable network today." says Andy Dale, President of ooTao.

"The software and internet industries have long suffered from multiple personality disorder with respect to digital identities" said Johannes Ernst, CEO of NetMesh and one of the originators of LID. According to Mr. Ernst, this has reduced security and privacy on the internet, created innumerable hassles for the users, and prevented adoption of new internet capabilities at the intersection of networking and personal technology. Ernst adds, "By enabling users to choose which digital identity technology best meets their needs, and focusing on interoperability without fear of lock-in, Identity Commons and NetMesh deliver the best of both worlds: seamless and secure digital identities that put the user in control, while helping to build an open platform that this space sorely needs."
